Zana Marjanović is a Bosnian actress and singer who rose to fame with her role in the Academy Award-winning film, In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011). Born on May 31, 1983, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zana Marjanović started singing at the age of six in her school choir. Music has always been her passion, and she took this love for music to the next level by studying music at the Academy of Music in Sarajevo.
Marjanović's interest in acting also developed early on when she started working as a theater actor in Sarajevo during her college years. After completing her studies in music, she focused more on her acting career and became a part of the National Theater in Sarajevo in 2004. Zana also made her on-screen debut in 2006 with a small role in the film, Nafaka.
Marjanović continued to work in theater and films in Bosnia and Herzegovina until she was offered the lead role in In the Land of Blood and Honey. The film was directed by famous Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie and was set during the Bosnian War in the 1990s. Marjanović gave an impressive performance as the lead character, Ajla.
After the success of In the Land of Blood and Honey, Zana Marjanović moved to Hollywood and continued her acting career. She appeared in the HBO series, Strike Back, and in the films, The Fourth State (2012), Love Island (2014), and The Forgiving Earth (2018). Marjanović also starred in the multi-award-winning HBO crime drama series, Succession, as the character, Vaulter.
Apart from her acting career, Zana Marjanović is also a renowned singer. She has released several singles, including ‘Lijepo li je, Hrvat bit,’ which became a hit in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 2018, she released her debut album, ‘Dođi na večeru,’ which features songs in Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian.
