Biografía de Shaukat
Shaukat Kaifi was a notable Indian actress, poet, and writer. She was born in Hyderabad, India on 11 October 1930. She hailed from a family of writers and poets. Her father, Kaifi Azmi, was an Urdu poet, and her mother, Shaukat Azmi, was a teacher who wrote stories and plays. Kaifi’s parents were known for their progressive thinking, and their home was a hub for intellectuals and poets.
During her early years, Kaifi was not interested in acting. She was an active participant in social and political discussions that took place in their home. Kaifi's father encouraged her to read and write, and she developed an interest in poetry and literature. She completed her graduation from the Aligarh Muslim University in 1951, where she studied English literature.
After graduation, Kaifi joined the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA) and started participating in stage plays. She got her first break in the film industry in 1955 in the film "Buzdil," directed by Shaheed Latif. She then went on to act in many films, such as "Umrao Jaan," "Garam Hawa," "Anjuman," and "Arth."
Apart from acting, Kaifi was also a prolific writer and poet. She wrote two books, "Kaifi and I," which is a memoir of her life with her husband, the renowned poet Kaifi Azmi, and "Yaad Ki Rahguzar," a collection of poems.
Kaifi was an active supporter of women's rights and worked towards the empowerment of women. She was the co-founder of Mijwan Welfare Society, an NGO that works towards the upliftment of rural India.
In her later years, Kaifi remained a devout humanist and continued to write poetry and prose. She passed away on 22 November 2019, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy as a celebrated actress, writer, and poet.
