Biografía de Joberde Metellus
Joberde Metellus es un actor, escritor y director haitiano-canadiense nacido en Puerto Príncipe en 1961. Before working in the entertainment industry, Metellus had a challenging upbringing in Haiti. At the young age of 7, his father, who was a prominent lawyer, died unexpectedly, leaving his family with no means of income. Metellus and his siblings were forced to abandon their middle-class lifestyle and move to a more impoverished area of the country.
Despite financial challenges, Metellus excelled academically and went on to attend university in Haiti. However, his academic pursuits were quickly derailed when he became involved in the political turmoil that plagued Haiti during the 1980s. Metellus became an activist, speaking out against the oppressive government of the time.
In 1985, Metellus was arrested and detained for his political activity. He was eventually released but was forced to leave Haiti to avoid further persecution. He fled to Canada where he was granted asylum and continued his education, earning a degree in Political Science and Theatre from York University in Toronto.
After a few years of working odd jobs, Metellus discovered his passion for acting and began to pursue it full-time. He became a prominent figure in the Canadian theatre scene, performing in numerous productions and touring across the country. Additionally, Metellus worked as a film and television actor, appearing in several movies and television shows such as "Being Erica" and "The Sentinel."
Aside from acting, Metellus is an award-winning playwright and director. He has written several plays, including "Last Dance at Hotel Nowhere," "The Provincial Aunt," and "The State of Blackness," which explore themes of identity and race. Metellus has also directed several productions, including "The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon" and "Café Daughter," both of which were critically acclaimed.
