Chuck David Willis was an American football defensive back who later transitioned to acting in the 1970s. Born on June 28, 1941, Willis grew up in Dayton, Ohio, and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1959 before attending the University of Ohio.

In college, Willis played as a defensive back for the Ohio Bobcats from 1959 to 1963. In his football career, he was known for his agility, speed, and ability to play various positions. He even earned the nickname "The Black Knight" for his toughness and courage on the field.

After college, Willis played professional football for various teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, and San Diego Chargers. However, his football career was interrupted by a stint in the military, where he served as a lieutenant in Vietnam.

After his discharge, Willis retired from football and moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. He landed his first role in the 1970s television series, "Ironside," and went on to appear in other popular TV shows such as "Barney Miller" and "Love American Style."

Willis also appeared in several films, including "The Education of Sonny Carson" and "Norma Rae." He was also a regular cast member on the TV series "Soul Train" and was a guest dancer on "The Carol Burnett Show."

In addition to his acting career, Willis also worked as a radio commentator and sports announcer. He passed away in his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, on July 28, 2010, at the age of 69.
